three karen-mclean-flyer pt1

three is looking forward to the final artist exhibition in the current series which launches this coming Thursday from 5 -7pm. The exhibition is called Vernacular Capitalism by Karen McLean.

Karen has been pre-occupied with the vernacular architecture of the Caribbean for some time, the persistence of this architectural form that evolved from slavery bears witness to the perpetuation of poverty.

“Colonialism is not an event historically far removed from us, nor is it irrelevant to architecture” Hernandez, Felipe, Bhabha for Architects, 2010

As the 15 heads of states from the Caribbean region prepare to approach Europe for reparations McLean examines the strategies that global institutions of power use which enable the continued domination of first world countries.

In this installation she will be producing new work that is layered with history, socio/political questions, discourses of superstition and Christian modernity, and issues of global domination.

The show will remain at 3 Mary Street until 13th June.
