Birmingham

BPN Architects were appointed by Platinum Employment & Training to renovate, redesign and extend their existing motor vehicle training centre (MVTC) in Birmingham. The MVTC offers courses for disadvantaged young people enabling them to obtain relevant qualifications in in car mechanics, improving their prospects for future employment.

The existing and proposed extension were clad with the same cladding system to ensure that the building is read as one. Within the existing garage, a new first floor was inserted which provided much needed welfare facilities (WC and changing room for students and staff, canteen and kitchen). On the ground floor, two new classrooms have been provided adjacent to the garage areas to ensure that students have a direct link between the theoretical and practical elements of their course.

The extension accommodates 2 new bays for MOT servicing and a spray booth alongside a new reception area with double height space and galleried office on first floor.
