Wednesday 21st October 2015 saw the opening of Stourbridge College’s new Independent Living Centre (ILC). Located at BMET’s Art & Design centre in Brierley Hill, the ILC provides opportunities for students to develop a range of life skills including cooking, managing money and home maintenance. The centre, which aims to help young people prepare for adult life, was opened by Sarah Norman, Chief Exec of Dudley Council.
The single storey building, which forms an extension to the existing college building, has been designed as a “show home” that can be used to teach students with learning difficulties, autism and disabilities to live independently in the community. The Centre can cater for a maximum of 10 students and 1 member of staff at a time and includes a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living area as well as 3 classrooms and an IT suite.
We have also recently completed a number of other projects for BMET including the new Erdington Skills Centre and James Watt Campus.
