Creative Republic is a lobbying group, set up by a number of like-minded folk in the West Midlands, who wanted to give a voice to the region’s creative and cultural industries. They have been running for a couple of years now, but most recently have been attempting to bridge the gap to Architecture.
Birmingham in particular is lucky enough to have a high number of creatives working within its city boundaries, and the Creative Republic (CR) team encourage sharing of information and ideas.
A few months ago we were approached by Helga Henry, Chair and founding member of CR and General Manager of Fierce Earth, to talk about how CR might integrate themselves with the Architectural community in the Midlands.
As a result of several exciting meetings and new connections, CR are now getting their teeth into engaging with more Architects. CR were happy to help the recent Be2Camp Brum organisers by promoting the event on their website, and also on the cards are 2 more architecture-based events: a walking tour of the Jewellery Quarter and a debate regarding Birmingham’s Library – Old v New.
We’re looking forward to getting an insight into other Creatives in the region, and we hope that the Creative Industries will have a better understanding of the Architecture of Birmingham and the Midlands. Architects interested in joining the Creative Republic Charter can sign up here.
