We have been appointed by the Development Committee of The Birmingham & Midland Institute to carry out an Options Appraisal of their facility.

The BMI is on the corner of Margaret Street and Cornwall Street in Birmingham city centre. It is of course, home of the Regional RIBA. It also has a range of function rooms ranging from small meeting rooms for 12 people to a 250 seat lecture theatre. The BMI is a registered charity whose only remit is:

“Diffusion and Advancement of Science, Literature and Art amongst all classes of persons resident in Birmingham and the Midland counties”.

Our work requires an analysis of all the existing spaces, and their usage, to establish whether the building is being used effectively, and whether the BMI are fulfilling their remit successfully. The appraisal will also look at the image and décor of the building. It just goes to show that the role of an architect goes a lot deeper than CAD and bricks & mortar!
