As part of Birmingham’s 2009 Flatpack Festival, writer Catherine O’Flynn will be presenting a 1965 BBC documentary about Architect John Madin at Ikon Eastside on Sunday 15th March, along with other archive footage relating to Birmingham’s redevelopment. There will be a chance to discuss some of the issues raised following the film – no doubt this will spark an interesting debate about Madin’s controversial Central Library which is likely to be demolished as part of the developments set to take place in Birmingham City Centre. The BiNS blog had an interesting post recently which showed just how beautiful the building could be “without all the bloody shops and tat“.
