Construction work has begun on a new ice rink in Leeds. Located on Elland Road approximately 3 miles south west of Leeds city centre and only 300m from the home of Leeds United Football Club, this new building for Staffordshire-based Silver Blades will provide the city with public skating facilities as well as a home for an Ice Hockey team.
We have recently begun the transition into producing projects entirely in BIM (Building Information Modelling) and this is our first major project to be delivered using BIM software Archicad.
The building will be a simple volume based upon the required floor area for the ice rink and ancillary accommodation. Externally, this results in large surface areas, which rather than being blank and unresponsive, have been treated as a surface which can be animated and engaging through the use of graphics and lighting. The technology for ‘wrapping’ the building stems from the same technology that has been used in advertising and automotive industries for many years.
It is estimated that the building will be completed in Spring 2016.
