Moving on from what we learned using the blind contours technique in session 1, session 2 focused on proportion and how to construct a drawing using a pencil and your thumb.  This measured approach was slower than the freestyle approach in the first session, but allowed us to translate what we saw in a more methodical and technical way.

“just off an axis line is a nipple, which is really useful.”

Later in the session, Dean asked us to use another technique which focussed on finding triangular forms in the model’s body and how they connect to one another. Some found that this constricted their creative flow…

“I just want to draw!”

Session 3 is due to take place next week. Dean sums up the idea behind our in-house life drawing sessions beautifully here on his blog.
