Birmingham Photospace’s first event took place at the VAAD Gallery at the Custard Factory on Saturday.
Photospace is an organisation originating from Flickr, whose aim is to raise awareness of the skills and abilities of local photographers with a long-term view of creating a dedicated photography space in Birmingham. Photospace is run by volunteers from different backgrounds who share an interest in photography. They are a mixture of professional photographers, amateurs and people who just have an interest in photography.
The idea behind Flashswap was to bring along a photograph and leave with something new. In all 83 photographers registered to exhibit and swap their photos, and the event was attended by many others who just came to have a look at the exhibition. The next planned event will be at Birmingham’s ArtsFest in September, however, the Flashswap event was so successful and received such encouraging feedback that there is every possibility that they will be organising another event in the meantime.
